This isn’t your ordinary cafe. Are you curious about the roots of Farnham? Or interested in the people that came before us in this town? This is a café for the local explorers.
You’ll experience Farnham’s long Christian history as you explore the ancient abbey ruins. For almost 900 years, this site has been a sanctuary for hospitality and community. The abbey was built by Cistercian monks in 1128, who used it to share food and fellowship with the local community. Today, we’re continuing the vision of this site as a house of hospitality.
You can learn about the famous occupants of the house in our mini-exhibition. Find out how Florence Nightingale and the Bonham-Carters are connected to Waverley Abbey. Learn about the long history of healing here and how the house was once used as a military hospital in WW1.
We have a sumptuous menu of English treats for you in the café, including a specialty Waverley Mead and Honey Apple Strudel with clotted cream. We’ve got gluten free and dairy free options too, including a Traditional Spanish and Almond Cake. Check out the full menu on our website.
We’re so delighted to be welcoming visitors again. We’d love to see you!
